Biography

Nicholas Robb – Irish Flautist, Guitarist, Singer, and Private Music Instructor

Irish flautist, guitarist, and singer Nicholas Robb began his musical journey at the age of five when his mother played recordings of guitarist Richard Searles. Dancing around the room with her, Nicholas became enchanted by the Celtic and medieval sounds that would later inspire his deep connection to Irish traditional music. As he grew, his musical interests expanded, and by high school, he played Clarinet and Oboe in the school band as well as in the Baltimore Marching Ravens from 2007–2009.

It was during college in 2013, however, that Nicholas discovered a YouTube video of Michael McGoldrick’s “Farewell to Whalley Range” and was immediately captivated by the beauty of Irish flute music. This moment set him on the path to mastering the instrument, and since then, Nicholas has cultivated his distinctive style with the guidance of Irish music legends such as Michael McGoldrick and Kevin Crawford.

In addition to his love for flute playing, Nicholas is a skilled guitarist and bodhrán player, and offers private lessons in all three instruments. With a teaching approach that emphasizes not just tune-learning, but also technique, style, and musical expression, Nicholas provides students with a holistic learning experience. His private lessons are tailored to each individual’s goals, whether they are beginners looking to start their musical journey or advanced students aiming to refine their skills and deepen their understanding of Irish traditional music.

As a founding member of the Irish band One Street Over, Nicholas has recorded and produced two albums, Beyond the Gate (2021) and Ridge and Valley (2024), both of which showcase his musical talents and his unique approach to Irish music. Nicholas, alongside his brother Adam Robb, has also produced several music videos for the band.

Nicholas has performed with One Street Over at a variety of festivals, including the Appaloosa Festival, the Winchester Celtic Festival, and the Dill’s PA Celtic Festival. In 2023, he had the honor of opening for the internationally renowned Irish group Altan at the Monument Event Center in Winchester, VA.

Whether you’re interested in learning the Irish flute, guitar, bodhrán, or improving your overall traditional Irish music skills, Nicholas offers personalized lessons to help you achieve your musical goals.
